Guiding Principles

The name now tells the story. Pioneer Printing and Stationery Company at 514 W. 19th St. Ð truly a pioneer firm Ð one of CheyenneÕs oldest businesses.
The firm also was one of WyomingÕs first business ventures when it was established as the S.A. Bristol Company in 1869, located then between 18th and 19th on what is now OÕNeil street.
About 1900 Bristol moved into the building immediately north of the J.C. Penney Co. on Capitol Avenue.
In 1890 Bristol brought in the first Monotype machine ever to be introduced in the west. Monotype is the first machine invented to supplant hand-setting.
When Bristol died, the ownership of the printing firm changed from the estate to William Fairchild, who in 1930 moved the equipment to the location of the present Cheyenne Credit Bureau on W. 19th Street. Fairchild changed the name to Capitol-Pioneer Press when he purchased the Capitol Press and combined the two in 1933. The firmÕs name was later changed to Pioneer Printing Co.
Fairchild sold the printing company to Jack Burri in 1938. Burri operated the firm until March 1, 1946 when Charles Nichols purchased the business from him, changing the firm name in 1953 to Pioneer Printing and Stationery Co.
In December of 1959 both plant and office were moved to the present location in the Read block on 19th Street where it covered 16,000 square feet of floor space providing ample room for plant facilities, display for office equipment, merchandising and warehousing.
In 1962, Pioneer Printing and Stationery was purchased from Charles Nichols by Bob Shriner, Jake OÕHashi and Don Bauer. In 1972 they installed one of the first 2 color presses in Wyoming. From 1974 to 1982 Pioneer Printing upgraded from lead type to computerized type and layout.
In 2003, Pioneer Printing and Stationery was purchased by Jerry, Stu and Diane Ziemann. In 2005 Jerry purchased all the shares to the business.
Plans for upgrading the equipment around the plant began to take shape. Jerry purchased the first digital direct to metal plate system in Wyoming. Many other upgrades in prepress also took place to include a direct to polyester plate system and new software to keep up with ever changing technology.
Jerry didnÕt stop there by installing a brand new 4 color, 40 inch Komori press and a new Digital 4 color press for small press jobs. Jerry and Pioneer Printing & StationeryÕs goal is to be at the forefront of the latest in technology and printing advances to continue to provide the highest quality possible that our customerÕs expect and deserve.
